What is a Condition in Automations?
Learn how to use Conditions to add precise logic to your workflows, ensuring your automated actions only run at the exact right time.
In your networking and CRM workflows, a Condition acts as a strategic "filter" placed between your Trigger (the When) and your Action (the Then). While a Trigger tells the system that an event happened, a Condition tells the system to check if specific criteria are met before proceeding with the action.
If the condition is met, the automation continues; if not, the automation stops immediately, preventing unnecessary emails or tasks from being created.
Available Condition Types
Currently, you can refine your automations using the following condition logic:
Date Range
This allows you to restrict an automation so it only functions during a specific window of time.
- How to use it: When building your automation, click Add condition to open the Date Range editor. You can select a "From" date and a "To" date using a calendar picker.
- Example: If you are attending a specific trade show from May 15th to May 20th, you can set a condition so that your "Trade Show Follow-up" email only sends to contacts created during those exact dates.
How to Add a Condition
- Open the Automation Builder: Start a new automation or edit an existing one.
- Locate the Insert Point: Once you have selected a Trigger, look for the space between the Trigger and Action blocks.
- Click Add Condition: Select the button marked with a plus (+) icon.
- Configure Criteria: Define your specific requirements (e.g., selecting your start and end dates).
- Save: Click Save to apply the logic to your workflow.
Pro Tip
Conditions are excellent for temporary marketing campaigns. You can set up a "Summer Special" automation in advance and use the Date Range condition to ensure it automatically starts on June 1st and stops on August 31st. This removes the need to manually toggle the automation on and off.
