What is a Trigger in Automations?
Learn about Triggers, the essential starting points that tell your AI CRM exactly when to kick off your automated workflows.
In your automation setup, a Trigger represents the "When" part of your workflow. Think of a trigger as a digital lookout: it constantly monitors your workspace for a highly specific event to occur. The moment that event happens, the trigger "wakes up" your automation and instantly fires off the Actions (the "Then" part) you have configured.
Without a trigger, an automation will never run. Every single automated workflow must start with exactly one trigger.
How Triggers Work in Practice
When you create a new automation, you must first select the specific event you want the system to watch for.
For example, if you want the system to automatically add a new deal to your sales pipeline whenever you meet someone new, you would set your trigger to: "When a new contact is created."
Supported Trigger Types
The system currently supports a variety of triggers that listen for events across different parts of your CRM:
- Contacts: Fires when a new contact is added or an existing contact's profile is updated.
- Tags: Activates the moment a specific tag (such as "Hot Lead") is applied to a contact.
- Pipelines: Triggers whenever a card lands in a specific step of your sales pipeline.
- Tasks: Triggers when a task is created or marked as completed.
Once the trigger fires, the automation moves on to check any Conditions (like date ranges or time delays) you have set before finally executing your chosen Actions.
